Website Design / Development / Squarespace

The website created for Bridgewater Canal was designed to present one of the North West’s most historic waterways with clarity, accessibility and a strong sense of place. The design balances a modern, easy‑to‑navigate interface with visual elements that reflect the canal’s heritage and its importance to local communities. The homepage introduces visitors to the 39‑mile canal, highlighting key areas such as boating, walking routes, cycling paths, activities and the latest news updates. The layout is structured to help users quickly find what they need, whether they’re planning a day out or looking for operational information.
A major focus of the build was ensuring the website could support both leisure visitors and boating users with equal ease. Clear navigation, strong visual hierarchy and well‑organised content make it simple for users to explore boating services, check notices, read breach updates, or learn more about the Bridgewater Way regeneration project. The design uses clean typography, consistent branding and high‑quality imagery to create a professional and trustworthy digital presence that reflects the canal’s long history and ongoing development.
The site also includes practical functionality that enhances the user experience, such as access to licence information, payment links, downloadable forms and essential boating resources. These features streamline processes for regular canal users while keeping the website welcoming and informative for casual visitors. The result is a polished, reliable and purpose‑built website that strengthens the Bridgewater Canal’s digital identity and supports both public engagement and operational communication.
